Having served as chairman of the US Senate Education Committee for 14 years, Senator James Donovan’s other roles are often forgotten. In fact, he also served as the chairman for the Committee on Roads and Public Works, the Committee of Mental Hygiene and Addiction Control, and the Select Committee on Mentally and Physically Handicapped.
When he passed away in 1991, many institutions were named in his memory. They include the Donovan Stadium at Murname Field, the James H. Donovan Education Resource Center, the James H. Donovan Science and Technology Building, Donovan Memorial Park, Oneida County Republican Committee Headquarters, Senator James Donovan Room and the James H. Donovan Community Center Building.
