Senator James Donovan watched as technology became increasingly important in the workplace, and saw that as a result of lack of training during his time, many people were losing their jobs. In response to this issue, he encouraged the addition of modern technology to the school curriculum.
He raised funds to support “Writing to Read,” “Writing to Write,” GERIS (Graphics Expression Reading Improvement System), RATPAC (Reading Achievement Through Publishing Activities), TNT (Technologies Network Ties), “Starlab” planetariums which could be transferred from school to school, as well as for the automation and renovation of school libraries. Donovan was able to cultivate these programs in dozens of schools in his senatorial district, thus having a significant impact on the technological education of hundreds of students.
